On 5 April, the first day after its liberalisation, the Tenge fell 11.7% to KZT 100/USD 1 on the KASE. The traded volume reached only USD 200,000. On Tuesday, 6 April, the Tenge tumbled 27.8% to KZT 138.5 per one Dollar. However, the exchange rate rose by 17% on 7 April to KZT 118.15 to USD 1 and a further 4.7% to KZT 112.79 to USD 1 on 8 April. On Friday, 9 April the average weighted Tenge/Dollar exchange rate totalled KZT 113.69 and the traded volume was USD 5,330,000, down from USD 7,815,000 on the previous day.

When interviewed on the state TV channel Khabar, the Minister of State Revenues, Zeinulla Kakimzhanov, said that the most real Tenge/Dollar rate should be KZT 110-120 to USD 1.

The table below gives currency exchange rates set up by the National Bank on 9 April for the purpose of customs operations and settlements. These rates will be in effect 9-12 April. (IRBIS)
