April 5, 1999
Between 29 March - 2 April the most popular stocks on the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) were the preferred shares in Kazakhtelecom (Listing A) and the common shares in the Kazakhmys Corporation (Listing B). On 31 March, six transactions were concluded for Kazakhtelecom's shares to the amount of KZT 38,900,000. The prices of the shares tended to decrease despite a promise by the company's management to apportion KZT 1bn for the payment of dividends for 1996 and 1997. However, the largest transaction was closed at a maximum price of KZT 600 per one share. Two deals were reported for the shares of Kazakhmys: on 30 March 8,100 common shares were sold for KZT 656.25 per one share. On 1 April Kazakhmys' shares were traded at KZT 700. (IRBIS)
Note: We apologise for a mistake made last week by IRBIS and also by us (since we quoted them). It was stated that the total traded volume of Kazakhmys was KZT 160.96m and the correct figure should have been KZT 160,960. Also, the figure given for the following day for Kazakhmys, KZT 824.4m, should have read KZT 824,400.
