Last week trades on the KASE started on Tuesday, 31 August as it was a national holiday on Monday. The demand for dollars by second-tier banks was reported to grow, due partly to the increasing demand for cash dollars. By the end of the week, the Dollar increased in value on the Tenge to KZT 132.56 from KZT 132.26 per USD 1. The daily traded volume ranged between USD 10,945,000 and USD 25,300,000.

The Deutsche Mark also appreciated against the Tenge during the last week: from KZT 71.08 on Monday to KZT 72.53 on Friday. The daily traded volume soared to DM 270,000 on Friday from DM 10,000-30,000 on previous days. 

Euros were traded only on Tuesday at KZT 139.32 per EUR 1. The traded volume was EUR 30,000.

The NBK's Tenge/Dollar exchange rate decreased to KZT 132.20 on Friday from KZT 132.00 on Tuesday.
