Primary Auctions

The average yield on 6-month T-bills hasn't changed from 19.51% at an auction held on Monday 5 October . According to AFINEX (Almaty Financial Instrument Exchange), banks have shown little interest in these papers at the past few auctions. The only demand has been from pension funds. This time, the Finance Ministry managed to place a total of KZT 309.6 (USD 3.8m) with a planned volume of KZT 400.0 (some USD 5m).

Compound Yields vs. Volumes at Primary Auctions of 6-month T-bills

Unlike 'the six', 3-month T-bills were more popular with banks. At the latest auction of these papers, held on 6 October, the demand parameters were less tough and the demand volume almost doubled compared with the previous week. The Finance Ministry, therefore, took the advantage of the situation and placed a conservative volume at an acceptable average yield of 19.77%. Non-residents have not participated in the auctions since 4 August.
