The crisis situation in Russia had a psychological impact on the Kazakhstani money market which resulted in trade volumes increasing to US $7-8m at the Almaty Financial Instrument Exchange (AFINEX) at the beginning of the week. On Thursday, however, trade volumes fell to a more normal level of US $3.335m. The Tenge/Dollar value was 78.30 at the beginning of the week and 78.50 at closing time on August 21. Deutsche Marks were traded on two days last week with a total traded volume of 115,000.
