Compound Yields vs. Volumes at Primary Auctions of 3-month T-bills

Dealers and their clients, encouraged when the refinancing rate increased from 18.5% to 20.5%, speculated for the fall at an auction of 12-month T-bills held on August 10. However, the Ministry of Finance chose to underplace the planned volume of KZT 700m (US $9m) but to stick to the previous average yield. Non-resident bids totalled KZT 150m (US $1.93m) but did not materialise.
